In the category of keepsake jewelry, you will find the charm bracelet. This is a classic piece of jewelry that is often treasures by girls and women of all ages. The distinctive chain link design can be found in sterling silver, gold or platinum. The various charms available for this bracelet come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. A heart charm bracelet is one of the most memorable styles and comes with the heart as an existing charm on the piece. This charm can be found as an open style or as a solid heart. Some charms in the heart shape such as the designs by Rembrandt will be very decorative in appearance. There is a beautiful open filigree style that is created in a 3D heart shape.
Another interesting design in this line is the heart with an arrow piercing the center of it. There are also some that have raised letters that proclaim the feelings of love. A classic charm created as a heart is the two-piece design. This will come with one-half of a heart attached to a fastener as the entire charm. This style is often given between young girls who are friends or young couples for their first love. You can also purchase plain disc hearts that can be engraved with initials, a date or someone’s name.
Another timeless keepsake is the locket necklace. This item is usually created with a chain necklace that has a locket pendant. The classic pendant used as a locket is a heart, but there are also many other shapes available as lockets today. In a design reminiscent of the Victorian age, is a rectangular locket made in a Marcasite design. This style is a intricate and ornate way of designing silver and may be enhanced with a gemstone on the front cover piece. This is made with sterling silver and opens to reveal one interior photo area. The back section is an open filigree design that does not hold a photo.
A variation on the Marcasite pendant that is rectangular is the heart with one half of the front in Marcasite and the other side set with black onyx. This is a stunning locket that is very formal in appearance. Onyx is also used with Marcasite in designing several other styles of lockets that are extremely elegant in appearance. You will also find gemstones set in other shapes of lockets including the oval and heart styles.
The heart is the most traditional design for this item and is usually embellished with delicate carvings on the outer surface area. You may find a silver heart with a rose blossom in raised silver or in a contrasting colored enamel on the front cover. Many heart lockets have a single stone set in the middle such as a diamond, to add some sparkle to the piece. You can also find lockets with some unusual designs on them such as a cat’s face or the religious image of a mother and child.
